FEAR

By: Caryn Shein, ASW, MSW

Fear is an illusion. It is a mental
manifestation of our own creating. At least that is what I got from a
book written by the awe inspiring Deepak Chopra. So powerful were his
words that my perception of life changed that very moment. And like a
miner striking gold for the first time, I had come across this precious
concept that would enrich not my bank account, but my understanding of
life. Fear, like any emotion and/or thought we experience, can and does
dictate both our feelings and behaviors. This concept is not a
breakthrough in the field of Psychology. It can, however, be a
breakthrough for the lives of those who maintain with tenacity that
their cognitions are fixed. That thought alone can fill the most vacant
of minds with this thing we call fear.

WHITEHOUSE ONDCP PRESS RELEASE

WASHINGTON—At the beginning of each new year, countless Americans
make resolutions to change their behavior-losing weight, starting to
exercise, spending more time with their families, or some other changes
they hope will make them happier and healthier. Statistics show
millions of Americans should consider another resolution: Seeking help
for their abuse of substances such as alcohol, prescription
medications, and illicit drugs.

spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry
this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all
our affairs.” (Alcoholics Anonymous)

column is specifically about spirituality. Yes, I am a Reverend and
I was trained in the Episcopal Church in England. Most Sundays you
would find me in church conducting a service, but it was always
spiritual in content. I’ve said in previous articles that I
believe there is a difference between spirituality and religion; the
difference cannot be stressed enough.
